    Job Description:

    IT Technician / IT Officer (several posts) based in the HKU-CDS Shanghai Teaching and Research Site (Ref.: 534841) (to commence as soon as possible)

    The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has established a world-class Teaching and Research Site for the School of Computing and Data Science in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai ("CDS (SH)"). CDS (SH) marks a strategic milestone in regional academic collaboration, providing a dynamic environment for pioneering research, interdisciplinary engagement, and talent cultivation in the field of AI and Computer Science. We are seeking proactive, skilled, and service‑oriented IT Technicians and IT Officers to join CDS (SH).

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the respective team leader, the appointees will provide administrative and technical support in one or more of the following key functional areas:

    1. IT Operations, High-performance Computing & Network Support

    • Provide day‑to‑day technical support for network infrastructure, physical/virtual servers, GPU servers and HPC clusters, and advanced computing platforms such as quantum computers;
    • Monitor system performance and assist in troubleshooting network, hardware, and software issues; and
    • Support system upgrades, deployment, and maintenance tasks.

    2. Audio‑Visual (AV) & Event Support

    • Set up and operate AV equipment for meetings, seminars, and events;
    • Provide on‑site technical support to ensure smooth execution of events; and
    • Maintain AV inventory and ensure equipment is functioning properly.

    3. Procurement & Asset Management

    • Assist with IT procurement processes, vendor liaison, quotation comparison, and documentation;
    • Maintain records of IT assets and ensure compliance with internal procedures; and
    • Coordinate delivery, installation, and lifecycle management of equipment.

    4. General Technical Support

    • Provide frontline support to staff and users on hardware, software, and connectivity issues;
    • Handle incident tickets and follow through to resolution; and
    • Perform other technical or operational duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s degree or above in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related disciplines;
    • At least 3 years of relevant experience;
    • Hands‑on experience in networking, IT support, and AV systems;
    • Familiarity with procurement workflows or documentation will be an advantage;
    • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem‑solving skills;
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
    • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
    • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and
    • Proficiency in MS Office and willingness to learn new technologies.

    Terms of Appointment

    The appointment will be offered by an HKU entity incorporated in Shanghai, which will be governed by the Labour Contract Laws of the People’s Republic of China. The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
