Job Description:
Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in the School of Innovation (Ref.: 536821), to commence on January 1, 2027 or as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
The School of Innovation is a new interdisciplinary school at HKU dedicated to preparing students to create meaningful impact in a rapidly changing, technology-driven world. With its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the early stages of development, the School is looking for candidates who are passionate about exploring effective and innovative pedagogies to implement interdisciplinary education for nurturing future generations of innovators with competences in technology.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, with evidence demonstrating their capabilities in making high-quality contributions to higher education. They should be enthusiastic and flexible about going beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries to develop the technology competences of students with diverse backgrounds, interests and learning needs. The applicants should have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Experience in collaborating with local and/or overseas secondary schools would be an advantage. Those with more than five years of teaching experience at the tertiary level (or in an equivalent professional setting) who demonstrate outstanding pedagogical skills and leadership in curriculum design may be considered for appointment as Senior Lecturer.
The appointee will be responsible for:
- Contributing to developing curriculum to equip students with core technological skills (such as computational problem-solving with programming, data science, mathematical modelling, and statistics) to empower them to innovate;
- Delivering interdisciplinary courses with effective and innovative pedagogies for students with diverse backgrounds, fostering their technological competencies for innovation;
- Supervising student projects;
- Providing academic advising to students;
- Contributing to admissions and outreach events, and liaising with external and internal parties to promote the School; and
- Contributing to committees and administrative duties.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided for Senior Lecturer as applicable.
