    Programme Manager (at the rank of Demonstrator) and Programme Assistants (at the rank of Teaching Assistant) in the Department of Geography (Ref.: 536878)

    We are seeking highly motivated and skilled individuals to join the Department of Geography. The appointees will provide comprehensive administrative and teaching support primarily for the Master of Science in Geospatial Data Science (MSc GeoDS) taught postgraduate programme.

    Post A: Programme Manager (at the rank of Demonstrator) (1 post)

    The Role: The appointee will work closely with the Head of Department and Programme Director to manage the operation of the MSc GeoDS programme. Major duties include:

    • Programme Administration: Overseeing the daily operations of the taught postgraduate programme, including admission logistics, student inquiries, and coordination of academic activities;
    • Teaching Support: Conducting tutorials and laboratory sessions (specifically involving geospatial software), course preparation, and grading assignments and tests;
    • Undergraduate Support: Assisting in the teaching and administration of one undergraduate course for the Department, if needed;
    • Student Support: Providing consultative support to students outside class and managing web-based course materials (Moodle);
    • Assessment: Invigilating examinations; and
    • Other Duties: Performing any other administrative or academic duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

    Qualifications and Qualities

    • A Master's degree in Geography, Geospatial Data Science, or a related discipline;
    • Demonstrated knowledge in Remote Sensing and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is required;
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills;
    • A good command of written and spoken English; and
    • Prior experience in taught postgraduate programme administration or study in tertiary institutions would be a distinct advantage.

    Post B: Programme Assistants (at the rank of Teaching Assistant) (Several posts)

    The Role: The appointees will assist the Programme Manager and academic staff in the delivery and administration of the MSc GeoDS programme. Major duties include:

    • Programme Administration: Providing logistical and administrative support for the daily operations of the programme, including handling student inquiries and organizing events;
    • Teaching Support: Assisting in course preparation, grading of assignments, and supporting laboratory or tutorial sessions;
    • Undergraduate Support: Assisting in the teaching and administration of one undergraduate course for the Department, if needed;
    • Student Support: Assisting in the maintenance of web-based course materials (Moodle);
    • Assessment: Invigilating examinations; and
    • Other Duties: Performing any other administrative or academic duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

    Qualifications and Qualities

    • A Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Geography, Geospatial Data Science, or a related discipline;
    • Knowledge or background in Remote Sensing and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is highly preferred;
    • Good organizational and interpersonal skills;
    • A good command of written and spoken English; and
    • A strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

    What We Offer

    The appointments will be made on a one-year or two-year fixed-term full-time contract, to commence as soon as possible, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
