Student Research Assistant in the Centre on Contemporary China and the World

Applications are invited for appointment as Student Research Assistant(s) in the Centre on Contemporary China and the World.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee(s) will work under the supervision and guidance of scholars in the Centre. Duties include:

• collecting and analysing data;
• compiling bibliographies, timelines and chronologies;
• creating, updating and maintaining spreadsheets and databases; and
• performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Applicants should be undergraduate or postgraduate students of the University of Hong Kong, preferably in computer science, economics, international relations, political science, or a related discipline. They should have:

• an excellent command of written and spoken English and Mandarin, with the ability to handle Chinese-language research materials accurately.
• familiarity with data analytics tools (experience with Claris FileMaker would be an advantage)
• good organizational and communication skills
• a high level of attention to detail;
• the ability to work independently, multitask, prioritize work and meet deadlines;
• good understanding of Chinese politics is a plus.

What We Offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a temporary part-time basis for the academic year 2026-2027, with the possibility of full-time engagement during August 1 to August 31, 2026. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.
