Job Description:
Software Engineer (at the rank of Senior Research Assistant) in the LKS Faculty of Medicine (Ref.: 536758) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)
The Centre for Health AI Research and Translation (CHART), under the LKS Faculty of Medicine, is looking for highly motivated and proactive individuals to join our newly established Centre.
The appointee will play key roles in developing and maintaining systems and platforms that support AI/digital health solutions and research projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to the design, development, and deployment of AI/ML-powered health solutions, from data pipelines to production-grade models and user-facing applications (e.g. iOS, Android and web applications).
- Implementing and maintaining large-scale databases and APIs, data governance and privacy compliance;
- Integrating software with external devices and platforms (e.g. ECG and other biomedical hardware) via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), USB/UART and related protocols;
- Ensuring application security, performance and reliability;
- Providing consultation on the development of AI/digital health systems to users and project teams;
- Preparing technical documentation and deployment pipelines; and
- Providing technical support and troubleshooting to users and project teams.
Applicants should have:
- a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline;
- solid experience in machine learning and AI frameworks, experience with model development lifecycle and deployment in real-world settings, big data management and handling, and at least 3 years’ post-qualification hands-on experience in developing and deploying production-grade software, including but not limited to mobile applications and web frontends;
- sound organisational, problem-solving, and project management abilities; and
- the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and comfortable collaborating with academic, clinical and industry partners.
Familiarity with healthcare data systems and experience in ReactJS/Next.js, Swift, Kotlin, PHP, MySQL, and cloud-based deployment, as well as familiarity with AR, Unity integration or Web3/NFT platforms, would be a strong advantage.
