    Part-time Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Psychology (Ref.: 536491)

    Applications are invited for appointment as Part-time Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Psychology (Ref: 536491), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

    Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or above in Psychology, Education, Neuroscience or a related discipline. They should be native Cantonese speakers; have a strong interest in reading disability, developmental disorders, and neuroscience; and have experience working with children and families. Preference will be given to applicants who can commit to the position for a long period, are flexible on working hours, especially working on weekends and holidays, and speak Mandarin.

    The appointee will work with Prof. Fan Cao in the Neuroscience of Learning and Development (NeuroLeaD) lab (https://www.NeuroLeaD.hku.hk). The lab’s current project focuses on children’s reading development and intervention, aiming to understand the mechanisms of reading difficulties and evaluate effective intervention programs for dyslexia. Reading assessments and neuroimaging tools (such as fNIRS) will be used to study children’s reading and brain function. Key responsibilities include:

    • Take lead in participant recruitment, contacting participants, and scheduling testing sessions
    • Oversee and coordinate the implementation of the whole project
    • Assist with reading intervention of children with SPLD with Educational Psychologists' supervision
    • Work closely with other members of the team on tasks involving reading assessment
    • May be assigned to assist with other laboratory projects as needed
    • Travel to mainland to collect data
    • Attend weekly lab meetings and journal clubs
