    Job Description:

    Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 536620)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will contribute to a comprehensive translational research program in the diagnosis and management of spinal deformities, including scoliosis, under the supervision of Professor Kenneth Cheung.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Supporting research on diagnostic strategies, disease progression, and management of spinal deformities (e.g., scoliosis);
    • Collecting, managing, and analyzing clinical, imaging, and functional data (e.g., X-ray, gait/motion data);
    • Participating in patient recruitment, clinical assessment, and longitudinal follow-up studies;
    • Performing statistical analysis and/or computational data analysis;
    • Maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards;
    • Assisting in manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and grant applications;
    • Working closely with a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, engineers, and data scientists.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or above in Biomechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Material Science, or related disciplines
    • At least 1 year of relevant research or clinical research experience (candidates with more experience will be considered for RA II)
    • Experience in clinical data analysis, medical imaging, or cohort-based studies is preferred
    • Proficiency in statistical analysis and/or programming (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB); familiarity with state-of-the-art AI/ML models is an advantage
    • Prior exposure to biomechanics, motion analysis, or musculoskeletal research is a plus
    • Strong interest in translational medicine, digital health, or AI applications in healthcare
    • Good command of written and spoken English
    • Self-motivated, result-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team

    The appointee will carry out research projects in HKU and HKU-Shenzhen hospital. He/She will perform data collection and analysis, prepare research reports, provide research support to the Principal Investigator, and perform any other duties as assigned.

    The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
