The Speech, Language and Reading Lab (https://slrlab.edu.hku.hk/) at the University of Hong Kong is inviting application for a full-time Research Assistant II position. This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated candidates who are passionate about child development, special educational needs, and advanced data analytical techniques. Our lab conducts cutting-edge interdisciplinary research at the interaction of psychology, cognitive neuroscience, AI, linguistics, and computational modeling. The appointee will contribute to impactful research that advances scientific understanding and supports children with and without special educational needs.

The appointee will play an important role in ongoing research projects involving: (1) On-site psycholinguistic and cognitive assessments for children with special educational needs (SEN); (2) Cognitive-behavioral intervention and training for children with SEN; (3) Advanced quantitative analyses using statistical and computational methods.

This position offers much more than a typical research assistant role. The appointee will have the opportunity to: (1) Work closely with an interdisciplinary team of educational and developmental psychologists, cognitive neuroscientists; speech-language pathologists, linguists, and computer engineers; (2) Receive hands-on systematic training in behavioral intervention, psycholinguistic assessment, acoustic analysis, and neurophysiological assessment; (3) Build research management, leadership, and communication skills through project coordination and student supervision. This role is especially suitable for candidates who are considering future postgraduate study or research careers in psychology, speech-language pathology, cognitive science, education, linguistics, cognitive neuroscience, data science, or related fields.

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Psychology, Data Science, Psycholinguistics, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Education, Speech and Language Sciences, or a related discipline. Applicants should also have: (1) Cantonese-English bilingual proficiency; (2) Experience with behavioral experiments and quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis; (3) Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Experience with Python, R, MATLAB, Praat, or related research and data-analysis tools would be a strong advantage.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, along with annual leave and medical benefits. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, supportive, and intellectually stimulating research environment at HKU, with excellent opportunities for professional growth, advanced research training, and meaningful contribution to SEN research.

The University only accepts online application for the above post. Applicants should apply online with an up-to-date C.V. and a cover letter outlining how their qualifications and experience align with the role. Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until 31 August 2026, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.

The University is an equal opportunities employer and
