Research Assistant I/II

Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.: 530748), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal.

Duties and Responsibilities (Each RA will focus on one of following duties)

1. Assist in robot motion tracking and vision system development
2. Assist in mechanism analysis and control methods of cable-driven parallel robot
3. Assist in multi-sensor deployment and fusion methods development
4. Assist in robot maintenance
5. Assist in digital twin modeling and system development
6. Assist in deep reinforcement learning algorithms development
7. Assist in mechanical design and Mechatronics

Requirements

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Civil Engineering and other related degrees or hands-on experience in the robotics area.

They must be able to commit to full-time employment without any other concurrent employment obligations.

The following skills and knowledges are expected:

• Familiarity with fundamental robotics, including coordinate transformations, kinematics, dynamics, and trajectory planning.
• Proficiency in motor control, with experience in servo motor development.
• Knowledge of commonly used sensors/ cameras and their data processing methods, such as LiDAR and inertial sensors.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Matlab, or Python, with experience in ROS and the ability to develop robotic software systems.

Those with less qualification and experience may be considered for appointment as Research Assistant II. MSc students at a Hong Kong University are also encouraged to apply and can be appointed as a part-time research assistant.
