Research Assistant Professor (holding the functional title of Research Development and Impact Specialist) in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 530539)

The Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction. The high quality of the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research excellence and clinical/professional services have attained global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s global rankings among the top three by the QS World University Rankings by Subject for eight out of the past ten years (2015-2024). The Faculty’s strategic research themes include Clinical Artificial Intelligence, Craniofacial Regeneration, Microbiome Innovation, Oral Cancer, and Population Oral Health. The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange (KE) activities as well as in oral health research and promotions in international, regional and local communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) Preparation: coordinate the RAE, develop and refine impact case studies and environment statement, and provide guidance and advice on impact case study development, planning and collection of evidence
  • Research Portfolio Enhancement: enhance the Faculty’s research portfolio and advise on strategies to improve research performance and visibility
  • Training and Development: provide training and development for staff and students on research-related work, e.g. writing manuscript, publication ethics and integrity, and grant writing, etc.
  • Impact Strategy Development: collaborate with Faculty members to identify and articulate the societal impact of their research, and develop strategies for promoting research impact within the community and beyond
  • Knowledge Exchange and Public Engagement: facilitate knowledge exchange initiatives and public engagement activities
  • Policy and Performance Advisory: advise the Faculty on research policy and performance enhancement
  • Publication and Research Ethics: develop ethical guidelines and polices related to research and publications, and ensure compliance with international standards for research integrity and ethics
  • Networking and Collaboration: foster collaborations with external institutions and stakeholders to enhance Faculty’s impacts

Requirements

  • a Ph.D. degree in a related discipline;
  • familiar with the RAE and its assessment criteria;
  • excellent interpersonal, communication and scientific writing skills;
  • ability to collaborate with researchers, faculty members, and other stakeholders; and
  • at least 5 years of experience in research assessment, impact evaluation, and knowledge exchange.

What We Offer

The appointment will commence on January 2, 2025 on a 2-/3-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.
