Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Research Innovation Office as a Clinical Services Veterinarian at the University. This role is part of the expanded Animal Welfare Officer’s Animal Research Team that works to ensure a high standard of animal health, welfare, and research outcomes. Together, we make an important contribution to the vital work being done to ultimately help improve the health and well-being of humans, animals, and the environment.

The CSV role encompasses the provision of clinical care, education of University staff and students, development of protocols/procedures, and more to enable robust animal care and research. There will also potentially be opportunities to contribute to research around the 3Rs of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement.

With a supportive manager, a great team, and a vision to provide the best care for animals in a research setting, you will have all that you need to succeed, while enjoying this dynamic role with flexible work arrangements.

This is a half-time (0.5 FTE), 18.75-hours-per-week role on a permanent contract. The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $120,000 per annum (prorated), depending on experience and qualifications.

He kōrero mōu | About you

Our ideal candidate is a New Zealand Registered (or registerable) Veterinarian with at least five years of experience working in a clinical veterinary capacity, preferably with experience in laboratory animal medicine or experience with the care of rodents, rabbits, birds, fish, and sheep. An interest in anaesthesia and surgery are a plus. Excellent communication skills, an educative mindset, and ability to work with a diverse range of people is necessary.
