Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity 

The Department of MIB is seeking to appoint two full-time permanent staff at the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor level in IB. They will play key roles in the research and teaching of International Business at the University of Auckland. We are particularly interested in appointing IB scholars with strong capabilities in quantitative methods and modern analytical tools (with one of the hired candidates likely to teach not only IB courses, but also courses in our growing Master of Business Analytics programme), and/or IB academics that could also contribute to our MBA programme (e.g., teach a course on Global Success and Scaling Up.)

Candidates at the Lecturer level should demonstrate the potential to publish in top journals in International Business and related disciplines, and candidates at the Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor should have already published in such outlets and have developed a portfolio of publications, including some in top-tier journals.

It is highly desirable that candidates can teach across IB and other related modules taught in a business school. We are looking for innovative and preferably experienced teachers with proven abilities to use various teaching methods, such as student-centred learning and flipped classrooms at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

These are both full-time, 40 hours per week; the salary range is - $94,981 - $157,822 per annum.

The Department of Management and International Business (MIB) is one of seven departments within the UABS. The department comprises five disciplinary areas: Organisation Studies, Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour, International Business, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation and Strategy. The disciplines are taught across the programmes in the UABS, including undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research programmes, and PhD. The department also contributes to the Master of Business Administration, the Master of Business Management, and the Master of Business Development in the Graduate School of Management. Members of the department are highly qualified and experienced academics who have made important contributions to the above disciplines. Several institutes and research centres involve members of this department, including the Aotearoa Centre for Leadership and Governance, the Centre for Research on Modern Slavery, the Centre for Enterprising Women, and the Dame Mira Szazy Research Centre.

The two advertised positions reside within the International Business (IB) Disciplinary Area. Members of the IB Disciplinary Area have been publishing in leading journals in IB and related disciplines. They have also contributed to teaching excellence in the Master of Management (International Business specialisation) programme, ranked no. 3 globally in the QS International Trade Rankings 2024 (MBA and Master’s).

 

He kōrero mōu | About you

Our ideal candidate will be a team player who will support the Department of MIB and, more specifically, the IB Disciplinary Area in a wide range of scholarly activities and engagement. You will have strong communication skills and will be able to articulate your plans and ideas. Suitably qualified with a PhD degree in IB (or a closely related discipline), our ideal candidate will also have the following skills and experience: 

  • Potential (L) or proven track record (SL/AP) in successfully delivering IB undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a business school
  • Potential (L) or proven (SL/AP) publication track record in top IB journals (e.g., Australian Business Deans Council A* or A-ranked or ABS 4*, 4 or 3-point journals)
  • Potential (L) or proven (SL/AP) track record attracting funding from both internal and external reputable funding schemes
  • Ability (L) or proven (SL/AP) track record in designing curriculum (part or entire programme/course)
  • Ability (L) or proven (SL/AP) track record in successfully supervising graduate students’ research in International Business (PhDs and Masters)
