The appointee will pursue both theoretical and empirical investigations into a multi-scale modelling framework for understanding and predicting urban systems evolution with regards to population and economic activities. He/She is expected to possess a strong technical background in land-use/transport simulations, including model development (e.g. cellular automata, agent-based models and computable general equilibrium framework) and short-/long-term forecasting.

The appointee will join and contribute to the Department of Urban Planning and Design. To forge a technology–policy nexus, the appointee is expected to assist in developing and testing the multi-scale urban systems framework in the twin cities of Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in urban data science, transport modelling, spatial analysis, statistical physics, urban planning, geography, or other related fields. He/She should have an excellent track record in publishing in high-ranked journals and working in an interdisciplinary team. Experience in computer modelling and an understanding of programming language appropriate for the development of computable urban systems model (including statistical methods) would be needed.
