At SIT's Professional Officers Division (POD), we bring our rich industry experience and technical skills into the workplace to create a conducive environment where applied learning and innovation take place.
Reporting to the Team Lead of Lab Safety, the incumbent will support the Division in maintaining an operationally safe and healthy environment for all lab users.
POD currently manages 108 teaching laboratories. The incumbent will support the development of the Lab Safety culture within POD and amongst lab users as there is need to establish an effective Lab Safety & Health Management system. He/she will also support the Division in developing and implementing standards beyond regulatory compliances.
In addition to the baseload of Lab Safety Officers, the incumbent would also be involved in developing lab safety training content for online learning as well as developing effective communication channels to engage staff in Safety & Health.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and drive compliance to relevant provisions stipulated by regulatory bodies such as NEA, MOM, SCDF, HSA and SPF in proper laboratory operations. These include fire safety, lifesaving provisions, waste disposal, chemical storage and handling, mechanical systems and pressure vessels
- Respond and coordinate emergency response activations from laboratories with other departments or divisions.
- Plan and conduct lab readiness assessment and safety inspections.
- Conduct mishap investigations and complete required accident reports.
- Review the document content for contractors’ statement of work and coordinate the submission of the documents to relevant departments.
- Provide advice to ensure risk assessments are completed and approved according to internal process.
- Facilitate risk assessment sessions.
- Monitor corrective and preventive action implementations in the Division.
- Proactive in instilling good safety culture, mindsets and practices in the workplace.
- Plan and organise safety and health promotions events and programs.
Job Requirements
- MOM registered WSHO with at least 5 years of relevant experience in Workplace Safety and Health, supported with qualifications of Engineering, Science, Technology or Human Factors.
- Possess strong knowledge of laboratory safety as reflected by qualifications and continuous training.
- Design and develop safety & health training materials to improve the knowledge and skills of laboratory users.
- Develop a variety of communications settings to inform and engage a diverse community in the University.
- Have a strong working knowledge of regulations and Acts pertaining to safety, health, and environmental protection management, particularly pertaining to laboratories.
- Able to implement and assess occupational health and safety compliance programmes, particularly pertaining to laboratories.
