Tenure-track Professoriate Positions in Computational Chemistry and/or AI for Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry

The Positions

We now invite applications for appointment as Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the following strategic areas, spanning computational chemistry and/or AI for chemistry, including but not limited to:

  • Quantum chemistry and quantum dynamics
  • Computational statistical mechanics for biochemistry and/or materials
  • Machine learning for chemical theory, computation and application
  • Computational cheminformatics and data analytics
  • Computation in quantum matter

Access to outstanding high-performance computing facilities will be provided.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop an innovative research programme complementary to the existing strengths in theoretical and computational chemistry of the Department
  • Conduct independent high-quality research
  • Publish research findings in reputable scientific journals in their areas and present research at conferences
  • Secure external fundings through grant applications
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in Chemistry courses
  • Contribute to academic and administrative duties of the Department

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Materials Science, or a relevant field
  • A strong publication record
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and mentoring to students
  • Complementary expertise with the Department's existing strengths and focus on Materials, Chemical Biology, Spectroscopy, and Synthetic Chemistry
  • Experience in securing external research grants and engagement in collaborative research projects are preferred

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 3 years initially with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second 3-year fixed-term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Professor/Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms subject to approval.

A globally competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experiences will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. In Hong Kong, the salary tax rate does not exceed 15% of the gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. A start-up package that is commensurate with the needs and experience of the appointee will be provided.
