Job Description:

Assistant IT Director in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2 posts) (Ref: 526476) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or IT related discipline. They should have substantial experience in software project management and good knowledge of software life cycle; ASP.NET, Java, Javascript, C#, PHP, SQL; Unix, Linux and Windows system administration and networking management. They should be a good team player with an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua and Cantonese. They should also have good leadership with problem-solving and communication skills, and ability to work on own initiatives.

The appointees will be responsible for the following areas:

I. Management of the Computer Service Group (CSG)

The CSG is set up to support the Department’s Research, Teaching, and Administration by means of computing hardware, software, and networking services. The appointees will lead the CSG in providing high quality computing-related support to the Department’s Research, Teaching, and Administration. The major duties include proactive management of the computing and network infrastructure, oversight of the teaching and research laboratories related to computing, and offering user services to teaching and research staff, general office staff and students.

II. Hardware and software management

There is various in-house software developed by the CSG, including the departmental Intranet, Extranet, Departmental Information System etc. The appointees will be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of these software to support the Department’s Research, Teaching, and Administration. They will also be responsible for upgrading and enhancing the system routinely, as well as building new ones as needed by the Department.

The appointees will also lead the group to support and manage departmental computing hardware facilities, including personal computers, high-performance computing facilities, networking infrastructure, etc.
