About the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to join Prof Joseph Blais’ research team at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. The Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy has many collaborative research projects with other departments, teaching hospitals, universities and the pharmaceutical industry. As a research assistant, you will partake in research using real-world electronic health records from Hong Kong and other regions, gaining skills in epidemiology, statistical programming, critical appraisal, evidence synthesis, and scientific communication. These skills are highly transferable to roles in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, public health, and drug regulatory agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • support and participate in pharmacoepidemiology, drug utilization and medication adherence research
  • search the scientific literature, retrieve, read and extract data from research studies
  • prepare figures and tables for research manuscripts and reports
  • conduct research participant interviews
  • support administrative and project management tasks, including preparing reports, liaising with project staff and data custodians
  • support the preparation and submission of grant proposal, research proposals, analysis plans, and ethics applications etc.
  • conduct data analysis
  • perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • a Bachelor’s degree or post-graduate qualification (e.g., MPH), preferably in epidemiology, public health, health sciences (e.g., pharmacy, medicine, nursing), biostatistics (data science), economics, social sciences, or related disciplines
  • a strong commitment to integrity and personal responsibility
  • great organizational skills
  • superb attention to detail
  • an excellent command of written and spoken English. Excellent command of spoken and written Chinese (Cantonese) is also desirable for some projects

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
