Senior Research Assistant in the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole

Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Research Assistant in the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole of the School of Public Health (Ref.:526433), to commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary basis or two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., genomics, molecular biology, or bioinformatics) and at least 1 year’s post-qualification work experience in genomics, molecular biology, or bioinformatics. Essential qualifications include a strong familiarity with long-read sequencing techniques, proficiency in NGS data processing, sequencing workflows, quality control measures, and preliminary data analysis techniques. Effective organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal) are also prerequisites. Applicants should be proactive and self-reliant, able to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic interdisciplinary research environment.

The appointee will be responsible for overseeing and managing our long-read sequencing operations. This role encompasses conducting long-read sequencing experiments, efficiently managing equipment and data transfers, maintaining an inventory of samples, equipment, and reagents, and overseeing associated expenditure and documentation. The appointee will offer technical guidance, aid in training related to sequencing protocols for virus and host genomes, and contribute to research projects, potentially leading to co-authorship on research publications.

The ideal candidate will stay updated on crucial developments of the lab’s research projects and the wider field of public health genomics, thereby providing valuable insights and recommendations to the principal investigator. Lastly, the appointee will perform other assigned duties as required, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
