Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating research collaboration agreements. Additionally, the Assistant Director will provide strategic legal advice and support to internal stakeholders on IP matters, including IP protection, enforcement, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate research collaboration agreements with industry partners, government agencies and other academic institutions facilitating collaborative research initiatives, having regard to SIT’s prevailing policies and prior related agreements such as memoranda of understanding, non-disclosure agreements and grant terms and conditions, and ensuring that all research collaboration agreements are signed without undue delay and in good time.
  • From time to time, draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of IP licensing agreements, including technology licenses, patent licenses, software licenses, and other IP-related contracts ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide legal advice and support to faculty, researchers, technology transfer team on matters relating to research collaboration agreements, including confidentiality, IP ownership, compliance with IP laws and regulations, infringement risks, licensing terms, other potential risks / liabilities and mitigation measures.
  • Advise on industry best practices for research collaboration agreements.
  • Create, review and/or update templates for research collaboration agreements.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends.
  • Stay abreast of developments in intellectual property laws, regulations, and industry trends, providing guidance and training to faculty, researchers, technology transfer team on issues / risks in research collaboration agreements and mitigation / management measures.

Job Requirements

  • Law degree from a local university (preferred) or an SILE-approved university
  • 7-10 years of working experience, at least half of which are as in-house legal counsel with a focus on research collaboration agreements
  • Proven track record of drafting, negotiating and research collaboration agreements promptly
  • Strong understanding of issues surrounding research collaboration agreements
  • Strong understanding of intellectual property laws and regulations, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets is an advantage
