Job Description:

Full-time Research Assistant I in the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 525908) (The appointment will commence on September 23, 2024, for a period of one year.)

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Language Education and Applied Linguistics with at least 1 year’s post-qualification working experience. They should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (spoken Cantonese) and capability in the following areas: (1) qualitative/ethnographic research; (2) quantitative research; (3) conducting and transcribing classroom interaction data; (4) quantitative data analysis (SPSS or similar software); and (5) proofreading academic texts in English. Strong communication skills, independence, multi-tasking, and attention to details are essential. Relevant experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies would be an advantage.

The appointee will work on the following research project funded by the Early Career Scheme, Research Grant Council of Hong Kong with the Principal Investigator: “The Affordance of an Emotionally Safe Translanguaging Space for Supporting Hong Kong Ethnic Minority Students in Managing Second Language Classroom Anxiety: A Study of Chinese as an Additional Language Classrooms”. He/She will assist in operational and research related activities, including but not limited to liaising with local schoolteachers, planning and conducting classroom observations, collecting qualitative and quantitative data, conducting transcription and translation, helping with analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and writing research reports.
