Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will design and fabricate materials for facilitating media production using innovative stimuli-responsive microstructures via top-down or bottom-up methods and investigate the mechanical properties and functionality of these materials. Characterization will focus on quantifying the relationships between structural features of the material and the ultimate performance.

Working with our collaborators at Temasek Polytechnic and the National University of Singapore (https://news.nus.edu.sg/novel-technique-to-grow-meat-in-the-lab-using-magnetic-field/), we seek to enhance and optimize a methodology for producing animal-serum-free cell media to help deliver on the promise of sustainability, security, and resilience with cell-based meats.

More specific responsibilities include:

  • Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
  • Undertake development and characterization of a scaffold for sustaining and later recovering cells in suspension.
  • Design, execute, and interpret experiments independently.
  • Author papers in high-quality journals in areas that are related to the research.
  • Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
  • Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors/suppliers.
  • Work independently, as well as within a team.

Job Requirements

  • Have relevant competence in the areas of wet lab work, analytical instrumentation, material formulation.
  • Have an advanced degree in bioengineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of any of the following will be advantageous: rheology, biomaterials, microfluidics, microscopy, colloidal science, gels

Key Competencies

  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
  • Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development.
  • Proficient in communicating via technical writing and presentations.
  • Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Show strong initiative and take ownership of work.
